Film Crew Overtime Calculator
Estimate how a longer production day changes labor cost. Enter the base hourly rate, crew size, paid hours, regular threshold, overtime multiplier, double-time threshold, and shoot days from the agreement you are planning around.
Estimated crew labor
$37,800.00
$630.00 per person, per day
Regular
8h
$280.00 per person
Overtime
4h
$210.00 per person
Double time
2h
$140.00 per person
Total uses 12 crew members across 5 days.
This is not payroll, legal, or union advice. Rates, minimum calls, meal penalties, kit fees, fringes, taxes, classifications, and contract rules are not included unless you add them elsewhere.
Turn the estimate into a production plan
Build the schedule, shot list, contacts, tasks, files, and call sheets in one CinePlan production. Start free with no credit card required.
Use your production's actual pay assumptions
Regular time
Hours up to the regular threshold use the base hourly rate. The threshold is editable because contracts and jurisdictions differ.
Overtime and double time
Hours after the regular threshold use the overtime multiplier until the double-time threshold, when the second multiplier begins.
Crew total
The per-person daily estimate is multiplied by crew size and shoot days. It assumes the same rate and hours for everyone, so use separate estimates when departments differ.
How to use this estimate
- 1Confirm the base rate, guaranteed hours, overtime threshold, and multipliers in the applicable deal memo or agreement.
- 2Enter the expected paid workday, crew size, and number of shoot days for the estimate you need.
- 3Calculate departments or rate groups separately when the crew does not share one base rate and work pattern.
Common questions
Does this know union or local overtime rules?
No. The calculator only applies the thresholds and multipliers you enter. Confirm union agreements, deal memos, employment law, and payroll requirements before relying on a labor estimate.
Are meal penalties and fringes included?
No. Meal penalties, kit fees, travel, minimum calls, payroll fees, taxes, pension, health, and other fringes are not included.
Can I estimate different crew rates?
Run the calculator once for each rate group or department, then combine those totals in the production budget.
